MedicX Pharmacy wins highly acclaimed C+D award

Clinical Service of the Year 2011 awarded to MedicX Pharmacy Blackpool.

On Wednesday 8 June 2011, the Chemist + Druggist celebrated the innovations and successes of community pharmacists, staff, pre-registration graduates and pharmacy teams at the fourth annual C+D Awards. More than 500 guests joined C+D and the 75 shortlisted entries at the ceremony, held in association with the NPA at London's exclusive Hurlingham Club.

MedicX Pharmacy won what many consider to be the award of the night - Clinical Service of the Year 2011, for the unique and UK pharmacy first HIV Supply and Support Service which has been delivered for over a year now by the MedicX Pharmacy Blackpool team. 

The independent panel of over 40 judges were not just impressed by MedicX Pharmacy’s revolutionary approach but more so by the successful patient benefits and outcomes. The service has now been recognised across the UK with MedicX Pharmacy receiving contact from other NHS healthcare professionals who wish to set up a similar service and seek advice and support.

All aspects of the HIV Supply and Support Service were developed with the patient’s experience as the guiding principle. Each MedicX Pharmacy Blackpool patient has a unique combination of needs ranging from anonymity to arranging care around work commitments. Meeting these needs was a huge challenge and became a passion for the MedicX Pharmacy Blackpool team.

The awards were testament to the high standards in community pharmacy, said C+D editor Gary Paragpuri. "This year the competition was the toughest yet, with an extremely high calibre of entries," he added, "so I'd like to congratulate all of those shortlisted including, of course, our worthy winners."
